This is my response to the OP pack. Putting it in as a comment stopped future comments for some reason.
It’s steel and very rugged. Beate and TIm gave us a plastic one first, but it shattered. This one is less destructable, but it’s harder to mount.
This was the first one:
But it got destroyed by a falling tree:
And here is the new one they replaced it with.
Thanks for the background. That is very nice. Mom has always wanted a gazing ball but thought it might get knocked to the ground by somePup, surely not us, and then destroyed.

Yes, the “new” one doesn’t look quite as pristine anymore, but we’re loyal to it. 😀
