No Time for Despair?

To argue with a person who has renounced the use of reason is like administering medicine to the dead.
—Thomas Paine

On the other hand, this holiday season reminds us mankind has gone through plenty of rough times in the past, and that as usual,

It is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

I’ve always liked that quote about lighting the single candle.
kind of like … you can’t save all the animals but the one or two that you do save… it makes a world of difference to that animal!

Yep, and the quality of our lives depends on how we focus our energy and our attention. It’ much healthier to do something constructive than to rant about the evils in the world.

The current fashion for deriding experts extends to deriding reason in favour of gut reactions and impulses. In which case we’re not much better than dogs and cats.

I do agree about lighting the single candle.
