Ponchos

They’re predicting 18″ of snow on the ski hill this week, but it looks as if most of the precipitation on the land will be rain.

Hopefully that will continue to melt the snow. Andy plans to continue walking the mile in, so he bought himself a poncho:

Ponchos are great — they’re light, easy to carry, and they’re big enough to protect backpacks too. That’s one modern development we love.

Update: Andy could drive a bit farther today — he had to walk only .8 miles instead of 1.2. He says it will still be a while before he can drive all the way in.

We have rain here tonight too. We don’t wear ponchos, but we bet Andy will be happy to have his.

He has a good raincoat up on the land, but it’s too heavy to carry back and forth, so the poncho works better. You pups have nice thick coats and don’t need rain protection. 🙂

  2. The biggest problem with those ponchos, the don’t last long…but maybe that’s good omen

    • Jean says:

We had some emergency ones that lasted for years, so they served their purpose. I also had some when I hiked a lot and don’t remember having problem, but we do live in the sunny Southwest, not the rainy Northwest.

A good purchase for that kind of weather.

  4. Never owned a Poncho but they sure look practical for anyone who spends time outside.

I used to have one of those ponchos. being short they covered most of my clothes and they do keep you dry!

Oh, rain ponchos! Critical equipment back when we were backpacking. The Maid of the Mist boat ride at Niagara Falls issues a poncho to each rider–those were pretty flimsy ones but we still used ours several times after that trip.

We didn’t go on the boat but wore raincoats when we took a walk under(?)/to the side of(?) the falls. I can’t remember the details, but it was exciting. That was a good trip — a lot nicer than I expected. Thanks for stirring up the memory.
