More Block Laying

They laid more blocks yesterday:

There are a couple more pictures on Flickr.

Notice how nice the weather was. We had a heavy rain with even some hail down here, so they were lucky.

They have to work on another job tomorrow and Friday, but Joe says they will be up there again Saturday.

The installer wants an estimate of when Joe will be done building his part. Originally Joe thought the beginning of September, but now he’s trying to find out when the insulation will be here. That could possibly hold things up — nothing is ever certain.

    It’s moving right along.

There are bound to be delays as we go along, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed that it all works out. They were lucky with rain yesterday but lost a couple of hours Tuesday afternoon and more rain is forecast.

  2. They are going to have to raise a lot of stuff in the greenhouse to pay for it. LOL I wanted a greenhouse when I was young so I understand the attraction.

😀 You are right about that! But who knows what the future holds for Kaitlin and Torben, the world is changing fast.

  3. Looks like a major project moving right along. Yes, if you will give Lily Bit credit you are welcome to use the pics for your post. 🙂

  4. somehow I thought the green house was going to be somewhat different…never imagined huge amount of concrete blocks. So do you have a proposed picture of the finished “house” or do we just have to wait :_)

    • Jean says:

It’s actually a sunroom and is usually attached to a house. This is sort of what it will look like. Andy says ours will be lower, but this gives the general idea. The house in the picture will be replaced by a wall Joe and his crew will build. The wall will extend the entire back of the sunroom.

We don’t know how deep the footings are for the sunroom in the picture. Ours have to be so deep because they have to be below the frost line, i.e., deep enough so that the ground down there won’t freeze in winter. Freezing and thawing would really mess things up. That’s why roads develop so many potholes in winter. That’s also why the pipe to the faucet is so deep — we don’t want the water to freeze.

    • okay thanks…it’s going to catch the sun in a good way…and yep, now I understand the depth of the footings in your area…

I can imagine you both sitting on deck chairs surrounded by the plants drinking your afternoon cuppa…or even having dinner among the greenery…

If it ever gets finished Andy would like to plant a garden. It’s been years since we had one, and this one would be so close to the house.
