Trick or Treat

We haven’t had trick or treaters here at our apartment for years, not since the local merchants started Trick or Treat on Main Street. The the Friday before Halloween they close off the road, the kids come in their costumes, and the stores give out treats. It’s a nice tradition.

How do they celebrate Halloween where you are?

  1. Halloween is not on the calendar here…although some retail shops do try 🙂 I guess certain groups of people do uptake it – maybe a family kind of time…but nothing on my part.
I know one of my nieces lives in a street where it’s okay, but most of the residents have a say in whether or not…and they often decorate their verges…

Here it used to make a difference if you have kids or even just live in an area with kids. Now I here some adults like to celebrate it too.

  2. I wish more communities would do something like this. It must be more fun for the kids and parents than going door-to-door.

Sometimes I get treats and sometimes I don’t…kids go from door to door, plus, some churches have where people park in their parking lot, and open the trunks and the kids pass through and get treats then. I used to always keep candy for the kids, but seems like there are so few these days. Used to I would run out of candy and have to run and get more.

We enjoyed the kids coming, and everyone knew everyone in the neighborhood.

It’s going more toward your way. Very few trick or treaters at our door anymore.

What a nice idea. They still have regular trick or treat hours here on Halloween night. They also have some kind of event held at the local fire hall for the kids. I think some of the churches have trunk or treat where people set up their cars in parking lots to give out candy. There are plenty of options here

I love what your town does! it still allows them to dress up but it seems safer for them. and even more fun maybe. although there was something to being able to walk in the dark from house to house! those days are long gone.
I think our town has activities. like the mall stores. but nothing like your town!
    that’s so cool!

Our area still has trick or treaters going door to door but it’s becoming less and less every year.
So many churches have trunk ‘n treat now, that’s where all the kids go, it’s just so much safer.

    • Jean says:

I think that’s a good idea. I also agree with tammy — walking around in the dark added to the experience, but it’s so much safer now that they have changed the day for Daylight Savings Time going off.

Ont one child approaches our condo to trick and treat! Actually it’s probably not allowed, although I haven’t really inquired. I did enjoy all that, when my kids were young, and yes, I sometimes miss it!

Here there are pumpkins everywhere, usually carved into scary faces. I also see all sorts of ghostly figures. Sometimes we get trick or treaters, sometimes we don’t. None so far but there are still three days to go….
