No Land for Andy Today

Not because of the weather or car trouble or a doctor’s appointment, but because we went to a seminar and lunch for prepaid medical transportation insurance. Mostly we don’t do seminars like this, but we were already in the market because if Andy has an accident up on the land he was already told that if the EMTs came from La Cueva and decided he need to go to a hospital it would have to be by helicopter. That could be enormously expensive and apparently a lot of it might not be covered by our regular insurance.

We received an invitation in the mail and looked the company up ahead of time. It has an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau, so presumably it is legitimate. We signed up for it and hope we never need it. Fingers crossed.

oh gosh. I hope you never need it too. but I suppose the peace of mind makes it totally worth it. xo

It is better to have the insurance and not need it, than to not have it and need it. Roger was lifelined from here to Indianapolis when he had his brain bleed…I am not saying the original charge, it was more than our house is worth….but insurance negotiated it down A Whole Lot, and we ended up not owing anything on it.

We’re with you, it pays to have insurance. When Andy had his brain bleed we weren’t charged anything for his hundred-mile road trip to Albuquerque. We don’t know what negotiations went on about that one, but we’re happy to have the extra insurance in case he has to be airlifted from the land.

  3. I have transportation insurance but it only costs $40 a year so it’s not a hard decision. I have no doubt out where you live, with the population less dense it will costs a whole lot more.

We agree, a great thing to have that we hope you never have to use.

  5. agree with the idea of an insurance against the possibility of such an occurence…

  6. Ann Thompson says:

Yes, I suppose they would need to use a helicopter if he’s up on the land. Better to have the insurance. I too hope he never needs it.

  7. Cindi says:

I hope it’s never needed but very wise to have it in place!

I too hope you never need it.

Hard to believe you need extra medical insurance, when the NHS would just lift me to hospital if necessary. But yes, I hope it’s just that, a precaution, and you never have to use the insurance.

Apparently ambulances, especially air ambulances, are sheltered from regulation. The fellow Wednesday said it was part of the deregulation of the airlines.

  10. Linda Sand says:

Friends who have used it have all been very glad to have it. I hope you never need it but it’s good to have in your situation. Now that we are back living in a metropolitan area ambulances are abundant so we are lucky that way.

It’s part of the price for loving in the country, not in a big city. We would both hate living in a city, so we’re not complaining.

    • Linda Sand says:

We live in a quiet part of a suburb with a view of a wildlife preserve out our windows which makes is much more doable than actually living in a busy city. In the winter when the leaves are gone we can see houses but they are quite far away. It’s peaceful here.

    • Jean says:

That sounds like a great location. I’m happy for you. πŸ™‚
