If There Were Any Doubt…

that I have joined the ranks of the “very old” (80 or over), here’s a picture Kaitlin took New Year’s Eve:

About the coat — I was looking for a new parka, and when I first saw the coat I thought it was completely impractical if one wanted to do any work outside. But when we were walking from the car to the supermarket one night it dawned on me, my legs were cold! I no longer work outside so something covering my legs made a lot of sense. I’ve had it for four or five years now and it may not be elegant, but I love it.

About the hat — I bought it years ago and have seldom worn it because I have other hats I like better. I did take it on our last trip to see Kaitlin, Torben, and the pups because it was easy to pack in my suitcase. And I wore it up to the land on this last visit to keep Tempi from destroying a good hat.

A couple of years ago a gust of wind blew my hat off, and Tempi was ready to play. She grabbed it and ran to the other side of the house. I went after her and was relieved to see she hadn’t hurt it, so I said sweetly, “Drop it, Tempi. Drop it.” She did, then put a paw on the brim, grabbed the top with her mouth and yanked up.

Goodbye, little hat. Note to self, don’t wear good hats around Tempi.

LOL! I’m thinking she might actually have thought she was “helping” you!
at least she secured it in the winds! AND. . .
I think you look very elegant in your long coat! it makes good sense to me too!

  2. I love that coat! I’m more into knit hats though.

Maybe Tempi thought that hat just needed a little ventilation..lol I think the coat looks very warm.

Tempi thought you bought it just for her…now you know what to get her for her birthday.

I always wear long johns….some are called cuddles…but I just get mine at Walmart. Once it gets cold, I wear them all winter long. I got started wearing them when I was pruning apple trees. They really made a difference an helped keep me warm…as they do now. I used to could get some cheap ones in the men’s dept…didn’t fit right of course. but they were very thin but so much warmer than you would ever dream.

I need to wear a hat, because I get skin cancer, but I just can’t wear them. They itch me to death…I swear I think I am allergic to my own hair. Even in the coldest weather, I just wore a headband that covered my ears at work.

Tempi was priceless, having a good time with her new toy and interacting with me. 😀

I wore long johns when I was outside a lot. They’re invaluable. Now I get most of my exercise inside so the long coat works better when I have to go out.

That’s too bad about hats. I almost always wear mine when I go outside when the sun is up.

Mom says that is a very smart coat to wear, smart-looking and smart for warmth. She doesn’t worry much about what others think about her clothes, she dresses for comfort and at this time of the year, warmth:)

  6. good choice that coat…and I wear thermals = top/bottom most of the winter under what is usually a garment I wear summertime… I’m kind of short of clothes, mostly because I hardly ever find anything I truly want to “wear”

And some are really very nice, but I don’t have any “event” to wear them too…or they are just not practical for whatever I’m doing…

I’m terrible at buying clothes…and just lately, lots of my duds are wearing completely out, so I’m down to having to wash things almost daily!

When I find something I like I buy several — no minimalism here. There’s no guarantee they will be here years later when I need them, so I plan ahead. It saves a lot of time and doesn’t take up that much space.

Jean, the thing is with buying multiples…half the time one is lucky to find two pair. My jeans I wear most of the time now…the store only had two pair. I have a different pair that has one of those shallow pockets…that I only wear to things like baby showers, etc.
