Jaunty

jaunty: sprightly, lively, cheerful, high-spirited, self-confident

I’ve been intrigued lately by Clare Booth Luce’s,

If old age means a crown of thorns, the trick is to wear it jauntily.

I’m not wearing a crown of thorns by any means, but the quote pointed out I could use more jauntiness in my life right now. I put the idea in the back of my mind for my subconscious to mull it over and make some changes when and if it decides to.

Then yesterday, I was struck by this picture:

Wow! Yes! Just what I wanted, even though I wasn’t consciously looking for it. If that egret isn’t jaunty, I don’t know what is. (Sandra made a composite of two photos of it using Photoshop. It doubles the emotional impact.)

Just looking at the one on the right lifts my spirits and makes me stand taller. It’s my new role model. Thank you, Sandra!

I have always loved these photos. that day there were many of them running around on the beach, this one sometimes looked like it was talking to itself. I love the word jaunty and it does fit. thanks for liking it and for sharing it.

I remember feeling just that jaunty on a beach in the Bahamas.

I do love this…it is one of those that make you smile the instant you see it. And jaunty is a good word…

Oh yes, thanks to you Sandra and to you Jean for passing it along. Just about to sit down to supper and now it’ll be with a happy lift.

Beautiful birds and the one on the right is a wonderful role model for jaunty walking.

That’s a beautiful picture and they do look rather jaunty. This is a nice reminder to put a little jauntiness in every day 🙂

  7. the one on the left is muttering out loud “no, you’ve not getting ahead of me today” whilst the one at the right isn’t saying anything, just enjoying the walk/run along the beach…not a care in the world, other than maybe thinking “Left needs to get a move on, stop muttering…enjoy life”

I always wonder how such thin legs can support such plump birds. And how they keep their plumage so dazzlingly white.

I guess other people would see me as jaunty. Well, why look miserable when with a bit of effort I could look more like Tigger?
