Smart Daffodils?

Andy and I laughed at this Pearls Before Swine comic.

Pig is walking along and sees some daffodils, so he says,

Daffodils! The first sign of spring! You’ve been dormant so long. Let me fill you in on what’s been happening in the world!

In the next panel the daffodils have disappeared and Pig says to Rat,

They went back into the ground.

The daffodils may have the right idea. We’ve completely botched testing for the coronavirus so far:

The system does not, is not really geared to what we need right now, what you are asking for. That is a failing. It is a failing, let’s admit it.

The idea of anybody getting it, easily, the way people in other countries are doing it, we are not set up for that. Do I think we should be? Yes. But we are not.
Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, at a House committe hearing on coronavirus testing.

So things may be a mess for a long while.

It’s scary because it effect breathing and lungs which is my weakness to begin with.

I love daffodils this time of the year.

    • Jean says:

      Daffodils are my favorite flowers.

Good luck in escaping the virus. Andy and I aren’t afraid, but we are trying to be careful with social distancing.

  2. Ann Thompson says:

I look forward to seeing daffodils popping up.
The whole virus thing is making me crazy. I think they are causing unnecessary panic.

    • Jean says:

Who is causing unnecessary panic? The US messed up not having testing earlier to see what is going on here — now they have to take more drastic measures to slow down the spread of the virus. Eventually everyone will be exposed, but the aim is to spread the cases out so the health care system won’t be overwhelmed and that the vulnerable won’t unnecessarily die. Italy is a warning: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/12/world/europe/12italy-coronavirus-health-care.html

That said, Andy and I (on the vulnerable list because of our age) aren’t panicking, just being prudent. Our supermarket was jammed last night and a lot of things are out today. Hopefully we planned ahead. Fingers crossed for us all.

      Take care and enjoy.

my mothers yard was full of these joyful flowers, but we called them jonquils in our part of the country. this virus is truly scary for health and the economy. we are keeping calm and away from crowds and washing hands many times.

  4. The OP Pack says:

Doing all we can here to avoid the virus. It is very hard to understand how an advanced society like ours is failing so woefully:(

  5. Catalyst says:

Well, just as long as we have plenty of toilet paper.

  6. I’m definitely going to adopt the “smart daffodil” model. However I possibly need blinkers and ear muffs as the overwhelming news keeps filtering in – often a lot of conflicting. I will do the best I can with the resources I have available to me.

    • Jean says:

My news sources tend to agree, they suggested weeks ago that we don’t panic but to stock up because there will be disruptions in our food supplies.
