A Bear

Driving up to the land yesterday Andy saw a big bear on the side of the road. He stopped and looked at it, and the bear looked back. He wasn’t afraid and didn’t move.

When Andy was driving home the bear was still in the same spot and wasn’t fazed when Andy stopped, got out his camera, and took this picture through the window of the Jeep:

Today the bear was gone, but the mystery of why he was there and didn’t run off was solved. This is the carcass he had been eating:

Poor deer, but bears have to eat too.

so true. ‘nature isn’t cruel. cruelty implies intent.’ (I read that once and have never forgotten it.)
however! it’s a good thing you and Andy weren’t hikers happening onto that scene. it might have been very different! cars can be wonderful safe things. 🙂

Wow, something you don’t see every day.

  4. I live in a city of over a million people and bear about half the size of yours has been stopped and tracked less than a mile away from where I live. It’s a big deal here that makes the media.

Wow, since the bear was eating I’m surprised it didn’t show some agression when Andy stopped.

Not having any bears here, I think I would be terrified by the sight of one. I gather they can cause quite an injury just by hitting you with one of their paws. I wonder if the bear came back to finish his meal?

Aww, poor deer, but that’s the way life in the wild goes. That looks like a BIG bear.
