Does anyone else remember this one? Andy mentioned it because he still likes it.

How much is that doggie in the window?
The one with the waggly tail
How much is that doggie in the window?
I do hope that doggie is for saleI must take a trip to California
And leave my poor sweetheart alone
If he has a dog, he won’t be lonesome
And the doggie will have a good homeHow much is that doggie in the window?
The one with the waggly tail
How much is that doggie in the window?
I do hope that doggie is for sale
I have mixed feelings now. I love the song, but I don’t like the fact that pet stores sell dogs raised in puppy mills. SIgh…

I actually do remember this…
This one was later than the last one. It was written in 1952.
Yep, that one is in my memory bank…maybe that is the year I bought for Mother on Mothers’ day a china kind of poodle dog – I still think I have said dog. I used to go to the Bric’a’brac store which actually sold mostly nice dainty china but also “dust collectors” with whatever money was required and would buy her something pretty…
For some reason that warms my heart. 🙂
You are hitting all my favorite childhood songs. I still enjoy singing that one. So what’s next??? 🙂
K.
Tomorrow is going to be pictures of the roadrunner. Not necessarily good pictures, but Andy did get them. 🙂
One of my personal favorites.
I remember.watching the Lennon Sisters and all their younger siblings performing this on a holiday show. I wanted to b a Lennon, too. (Dweeb, ya.)
🙂
My Levi came from a pet store 12 years ago and he’s been a great dog with no health issues but one of the dogs I had before was a puppy mill dog who only lived 5 years do to health issues.
I was sad to read that some of them have problems. I remember how excited I would get seeing them.
I still remembered all the words to the first verse. But I didn’t know there was more! I agree, we should only adopt rescue animals!
Or from a responsible breeder, but my preference is for rescues.
This one was one of my mom’s favorite’s when I was small. She was only 16 when I was born (which I guess explains a lot, but never mind). The song was first released when I was just under 1 year old.
She was young! I’m sorry that was too young to be a good mother… that makes it hard going.
Yes, I remember this as one of numerous popular cutesy novelty tunes over the years.
I’m afraid the cutesy, silly ones tend to stick in my mind. I’m still a kid at heart. 🙂
I didn’t realize there were more verses.
I remember now that I have looked them up, but I like it better without them. I like short, bouncy songs. 🙂
Another one that takes me back. My dad taught me this one too. He liked to sing and I know a lot of good old song.
I’m glad your father sang, that makes for good memories. 🙂
I loved the song too, but not now for the same reason you mentioned. things were different way back then, or maybe not and we had no way to know.. i used to sing this song all the time when growing up
It’s too bad the puppy mills had to ruin a good song. 🙁
yup, yup I remember this well..
🙂
Thanks, another one to have playing in my head today. All day yesterday it was Marzy Dotes! 🙂
🙂
Yup.
I don’t know where our first dog came from when we were kids but the second one came from an extended family farm when my parents went to Mom’s Uncle George’s funeral. So we named that dog George.
I’m glad you could have dogs. 🙂
I remember the song well. But like you, I hate puppy mills. I think more and more people are going for rescue dogs.
I think that’s so good. And more cats and dogs are getting spayed/neutered, which eliminates a lot of suffering.
