Hurray for iPhones/Smartphones

Torben gave me his old iPhone several years ago, and I love it for taking pictures. I couldn’t have taken pictures of Andy opening the package of sugar cookies nearly as fast with my Sony point-and-shoot.

I don’t have a SIM card for the iPhone, I use my old flip top if I need a mobile phone, but the iPhone is invaluable as a camera.

Thanks again Torben!

Whatever works. Bud would say “whatever cranks your gears”. I think that is awesome you got a free camera…phones these days take pretty darned good photos!

It looks like he’s having so much fun.

  2. We are actually coming around to feeling, we ought to “bite the bullet” and get 2 of those “Jitterbugs” (phones) or something like them. To text with family.

We only use our old flip phones, for safety in the car, or for back up, to the land line, if power went out. We really don’t want a-computer-in-our-hands, as a fancy cell phone is. So we have resisted.

I really feel our family would appreciate it, if we could text, instead of having to call. Soooo, we have to look into it.

Wow, cell phones do take amazing pictures! So true, that you couldn’t have taken a succession of pics, with your (mine too) old point and shoot. I don’t really know, if the not-expensive ones, we have in mind, take pics. Or! If I would know what to do with them, if I took them!!!!!! -sigh-

Learning to use it, has been holding us back too. -sigh-sigh-sigh-

Well, maybe I’ll actually be able to say, in not too long, that I have come into the *future.* LOL

    Greetings from the “North Pole”!

You can send texts from your computer…I do it every day. When Andy can respond (poor reception up there, he can usually get mine but often can’t respond using the cell phone) it comes in my email. What phone company does your family use? The address to send the text to differs from provider to provider.

  3. I wish I could use the camera in my phone and in my Kindle but my hand is too shaky. Have to stick with my regular, heavy camera. But isn’t it fun to get new tech stuff!

I can’t tell the difference between the iPhone pictures, and ones taken with a fancy camera.

  5. here the saying that I use is “whatever rocks your boat” – I do have a regular camera but a few months ago my computer decided that it would search even my deleted pictures on my smart phone and down load them – so instead of one copy on computer – so many copies!

So I’m not keen to have that happen with my regular digital camera – have to stick with the phone pictures which at times don’t come together as well as they should – but more and more people especially online are realising I have 2 hand disabilities that throw a curveball regularly…

I am planning to get a new phone but right now that’s not a “doable thing” – talked with pal about it weeks ago but it’s a “me cannot do” …

I find I’m doing less and less texts – preferring to use messenger…

I send Andy a text every day he’s up on the land, but I do it from my computer. It’s so much easier for me, and his reply comes to my email.

my friend did not tell me she was giving away her old iphone, so I missed getting one for taking photos. she turned it inot an ipod for a lady in a nursing home. put headphones on and listen to music. old iphones are good even if not used as a phone… so happy for you that you have one… love the photos of the tape removal. so fun
I did no know you can text to emal. just send the text to the email address? or phone?

I do absolutely everything with my iPhone, in fact even now as I’m commenting, I’m doing it by talking to my phone and dictating.
A few months back my iPhone started to bite the dust so I got the newer one and this camera is better than any camera I’ve ever had.
I am able to zoom in, crop, edit and add any filters and if I want to, II can even write a text over the top, and that’s just a very small part of what I can do with the camera! I also pay all my bills online with my iPhone and I recently learned how to install an app on my iPhone so I can print directly from my phone to my printer.
Every day I learning something new and I’m amazed at all that I can do!
I highly recommend one to everyone!

      Sandra,
I use email to send my text message to Andy’s phone: [his 10-digit mobile phone number]@vtext.com. When he replies it comes to my email address. For ATT I would send it to [10-digit mobile phone number]@txt.att.net. I just now put my email address as a contact on my phone and sent myself a message. AOL says the message was from [my mobile phone number]@vtext.com It’s so cool and I didn’t know it existed until our contractor told us about it last fall. It was easy enough to do an internet search to find out how. I love it!

      Cindi,
Kaitlin and Torben do a lot with theirs too. I primarily use my Mac Mini for complicated things because I’m home all the time, but iPhones are mini computers. What model do you have now? I have tried printing from my iPad using my new printer, and I agree, that’s a great feature. Do you have a special app for photo editing?

  7. That’s pretty neat! I’ve never had an iPhone, but I like the way my Google Pixel performs. In fact, lwhen I was forced to replace my Samsung I told the associate, 1) No Apple products, and 2) The most important feature to me is the camera. Ya, if it makes and receives calls that would be okay, too. (*smile*)

    • Jean says:

Yes, they’re worth buying for the camera! Kaitlin and Torben talked us into switching to Macs back in 2008 because then the Macs were a lot more reliable than PCs. So it makes more sense for us to use Apple products for phones and tablets.

I’ve gotten to where I use my phone exclusively for taking pictures. Much more convenient that carrying around the big camera

  9. Cindi says:

Jean, my iPhone is an 11
The guy at the Apple Store wanted me to wait a couple of months because the 12 was coming out but my screen it started to go black and many times the phone wouldn’t work at all and given my condition and the places I have to be I needed a phone immediately.
But I’m very happy with it! I traded in a 7 for an 11 and I pay about five dollars a month less! go figure! Lol!
I edit my photos on my phone as part of the normal features but then I also uploaded the Photo Editor app and I’m able to do a lot more with it.
You’ll probably find this very funny but the feature that I use most in the Photo Editor photo app is something called “blemish” actually I suppose most people use that to edit a photo of their face and tap on it to erase a blemish or a spot but I use it when I’m taking pictures of something in my house! like recently I took a picture of my cat in the window and there was a cat snot on the white curtain and I suppose the normal person might not have noticed it but I did! so I just tap blemish and it made it disappear and made me happy because I like things to look very pretty and white! LOLOLOL
