Christmas Carols

These two record albums have been an important part of our Christmas tradition, so several years ago I made CD versions of them so we could listen as we drove around looking at the lights on Christmas Eve.

I also added two other songs: Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer and Percy the Puny Poinsettia. The latter one always cracks us up.

Percy the puny poinsettia
Is hanging his bloom in dismay
If they had just kept him wetta
He’d be a houseplant today
Folks liked the other plants betta
Now he’s alone on the shelf
Even a plant with no uncle or aunt
Shouldn’t spend Christmas Day by himself

Holiday shoppers would stop by the counter
And pick up a plant to take home
Until one by one all his friends were adopted
And Percy was left all alone

Percy the puny poinsettia
Is hanging his bloom in dismay
If they had just kept him wetta
He’d be a houseplant today
Folks liked the other plants betta
Now he’s alone on the shelf
Even a plant with no uncle or aunt
Shouldn’t spend Christmas Day by himself

Then into the store on the night before Christmas
Came a poor little girl who was cryin’
But when she saw Percy her eyes opened wide
And she said “Can I please make him mine?”

Now Percy the puny poinsettia
Is standing beside Mr. Tree
His leaves have never been redda,
He’s as proud as a flower can be

Somebody made him feel betta,
Rescued him off of the shelf
Even a plant with no uncle or aunt
Shouldn’t spend Christmas Day by himself

Merry Christmas, everyone!

I sure remember the Mormon Tabernacle Choir LP’s at my parent’s home. (Mitch Miller, too.) Classic stuff. Cracking up about Percy; that could rightly describe my effect on poinsettia’s.
Your stockings are really sweet. Imagine the memories they contain!

Happy day after Christmas, i have never heard the song, but the tune is very familiar but can’t think what it is. glad poor percy was saved and I am with Myra, the 2 plants I tried to save died anyway… Percy would not want to go home with me…

I know all these songs except for Poinsettia Percy. I love it. What a cute song. Thanks for sharing it.

  5. We do gather special Christmas music, don’t we? And they come out, every year, like clock work. -smile-

Happy Day on which “Good King Wenceslas looked out…” -smile-

My mind is such a jumble I cannot focus on the words to the song…but I have never heard it before. I have got to come back for it.
