WordPress Smileys

I love the fact that Blogger will let me put emojis in my comments. WordPress won’t. I’ve been using some basic smileys in WordPress: 🙂 😀 and 🙁 , but I decided to search to see what else it allows. In the following there isn’t a space between the text representing the smiley and the “to” because it I put a space there WordPress would show the smiley instead of the text. The text for smileys has to have a space before and after it to be interpreted.

Type :)to show smile 🙂
Type :(to show sad 🙁
Type :Dto show grin 😀
Type :oto show eek 😮
Type 8Oto show shock 😯
Type :?to show puzzled 😕
Type :xto show mad 😡
Type :Pto show razz 😛
Type :|to show neutral 😐
Type ;)to show wink 😉
Type :lol:to show laughs 😆
Type :oops:to show oops 😳
Type :cry:to show cry 😥
Type :evil:to show evil 👿
Type :twisted:to show twisted 😈
Type :oops:to show oops 😳
Type :roll:to show eye roll 🙄
Type :!:to show exclamation ❗
Type :?:to show question ❓
Type :idea:to show idea 💡
Type :arrow:to show arrow ➡

I don’t know if any one else will find this useful, but I learned something today. 🙂

  1. I’ve been on Bloggers for years and didn’t know we could use emojis. lol

This is great! I’ve taken to going to an emoji-specific website, then clipping and pasting, but that’s burdensome. This list is a keeper!

That is really very interesting. Thanks for sharing.

    I didn’t know this!

Well, I don’t have WordPress so I can’t make use of those. But it was a great leap forward for me when I discovered Alt codes. Like Alt + 0189 for ½ or Alt + 0233 for é. Very helpful indeed.

The only one I ever seem to be able to remember is the first. I use it frequently in emails but I’ve never used it in a blog post. 🙂

They wouldn’t work in your posts, they’re WordPress, not Blogger. Blogger gives you a lot more choices if you wanted to use them. I wrote this post because some Blogger users try to use the emojis they’re familiar with in comments here. WordPress doesn’t understand them and just prints question marks. It’s a nuisance, but there it is. 🙁

I did not know this, I have windows 10, and use hit the windows key, the picture of windows lower left and then the period and it has hundreds to pick from ??? that is how I typed this. I do like emojis and all this stuff.
🙂 doesn’t work for me. this explains why sometimes i have comments that slow this and wondered what it was… there are way to type musical notes but I can never emember what does what. ? I just did this note by hitting ALT holding it down and type on number pad only 13… doesn’t work on top numbers

  8. B says:

Looks like fun. : oops :

  9. Rose says:

I did not know this…should save the page to have to refer to. I use the alt key + numbers for a lot of things. I had had the internet several years before I realized there was a lot I could do with them.

  10. I don’t truly bother, although I suppose I should. And as wordpress (free site) has gone off on a tangent of it’s own of late, I just do what I can…

There’s no reason to use them if you don’t want to. I wrote the post for Blogger folks who try to put emojis in comments here in WordPress. Blogger gives users and commenters a lot more options.

  11. Definitely interesting!
