Our Local Groundhog

Our local groundhog didn’t see its shadow yesterday…today the temperature on the porch was 54°F. Do you think there’s any correlation?

I still remember the fun of Groundhog Day when I was a kid. Maybe because we didn’t have as many electronic gadgets then and were eager for some variety?

He’s a cutie! Looks a bit smaller than most

That picture wasn’t ours, it was a Pixabay photo…thanks Ann for telling me about that site. Our local groundhog was a stuffed animal and his mask was too big for him so his personality didn’t come through.

Handsome boy!!! We had almost 60 degrees here today. But we do hear that bitter cold is coming in by Sunday.

  3. Well isn’t he cute. I heard that old Punxsutawney Phil did see his shadow

Maybe the world wasn’t nuts then either. 🙂

  5. I know it sounds corny but one of the most fun days my husband and I had traveling was stopping in to see Punxsutawney Phil. They had a big brass statute of him out front and the dog we had at the time stood on his back legs to smell the statute’s butt.

I don’t recall ever observing Groundhog Day, but love the ritual. He’s a cutie!

  7. I only heard about “groundhog day” when I joined the world wide web – cute story and I can imagine it was a childhood event that would tickle anyone!

It used to be here that when lambs were born and daffodils/bulbs came out – it was Spring. But of course, it wasn’t as often a few weeks later it would snow somewhere in the South! And now with genetic modification of farm animals and plants – everything is “about to be” any old time…

“Springtime in the Rockies” is what we say when we get snow after Spring starts. We remember the first week in June a small little circus would come to town, and we usually wore our arctic parkas when we watched it. We usually had some flakes of snow then.

we call them prairie dogs here! I’m guessing they’re the same.
and they are cute. it was 80 degrees in the panhandle here yesterday. and to drop down to the low 20’s next week. the roller coaster climate. it must be hard on plants and wildlife. any self respecting ground hog wouldn’t have a clue! xo

love the local, even with the mask he is adorable. I did not know about ground hog day until I married bob when I was 40 years old. he comes from 40 miles north of Philly and told me about it. I had never heard of the day, then the movie came out. since he is from the north and i am the south, we have learned much about each other like we were born and raised in another country….

I will be ready for Spring (but not what follows). I like how you can add photos to comments! Not bkogger.

I know I knew about groundhog day but I dont remember anyone thinking much about it.

Groundhog day was always known to me growing up, then eventually heard of Phil when they decided to capitalize on him when I was older. Has always been an annoyance to me ’cause they manually drag him out which has nullified the value of the prognostication in my view. He needs to be observed on whatever day he chooses to emerge which might not always be 2/2 — but we humans gotta have a schedule. 😉
