Second Shingle Shot

Andy and I didn’t have any problems with our Covid shots, and I had a slight reaction to my first shingles shot… mild flu symptoms but mainly it felt like I was fighting a cold. I took it easy and was fine the next day.

However, we got our second shots Thursday evening, and when I woke up yesterday I felt sick. I went back to sleep and felt better, but still extremely tired, a couple of hours later so I slept most of the day/early evening. Then later, around 9 or so I felt normal again. I thought I might have trouble sleeping, but no, I slept for about 9 hours last night.

How weird was that?! I suffered from insomnia for about 40 years, but clearly that problem is long gone. And I’m profoundly grateful.

  1. am glad you’ve had the shots – and that you have overcome the problems – your body just thought “let’s give Jean a good nights’ sleep” – our bodies seem to understand what we need (well most of the time)…

I’m in Group 3 in NZ, rollout May … after I checked a few boxes on “when” and now I’ve signed up for Group 3 updates. Seems like a sensible thing to do 🙂

Of course New Zealand is in a much different covid-status than most of the rest of the world…so I wasn’t expecting to be in either group 1 or 2. I think there are only 4 groups as it is…but Group 4 is the rest of the population who are in good health and younger…

We were impressed at how well New Mexico did on our Covid vaccines. Our pharmacy made it easy to schedule our shingles shots too. Much easier than going through our doctor if our doctor had been able to do it.

Thank you for sharing your experience! Tom and I are due for our second shots next week so everyone’s feedback is appreciated.

PS – Which did you get? Tom had the Moderna, mine was Pfizer.

wow. I thought the reaction was from the second covid shot!
not sure where I got that. my friend Debora also had problems with the shingle shot.
I didn’t know they gave Two shingle shots! I’m glad you’re on the mend.
rest is so very important! I hope you get lots of Normal sleep now.
that’s pretty much what I do when I’m sick. I just sleep. That and a clean
bath room is what I count on!
when I finally started to feel better I took a nice hot shower. it was heaven.
like they say… “it’s the little things.”
    XO

Glad to hear you got your shots and that you’re feeling better.

  6. I had about the same experience with my shingle shots. Glad we don’t have to get them every year.

Amen to that! We’re so glad we had them though. I had shingles in my left eye a few years ago in spite of the old vaccine. It wasn’t fun and was scary because it could have done permanent damage. Luckily my ophthamologist recognized it right away.

  7. Ginny Hartzler says:

Hurrah! It is such a good thing to be vaccinated. I know that I feel so much less anxious.

  8. Hootin' Anni says:

Congrats on successful immunization. Ya, not suffering from insomnia is a god-send, I’m sure.

glad you are doing well, we are too.. we both had the moderna, but i have heard same side effects as phyzcer.. i had the opposite of you, 1st and 2nd, my first 2 nights were restless, by that i mean sleep 2 hours wake up go back to sleep, last night i woke up 3 times in 7 hours but did go back to sleep. the other thing i had both times was the joints that ache with osteoarthritis off and on normally, ached more. but no real side effects, i to felt off and on yesterday like i was about to come down with a cold, but it came and went. head stuff up and then run which could be pollen. I am good with what ever it is
