Andy brought these zucchini home last night. The largest was about 13″ long.
I’m impressed by how well the plants hide their fruit from predators. Andy hadn’t seen these before.

I think it’s the “leaves” on these type of plants….sprawl outwards and just create the perfect little roof over the green growing produce….kind of matchy matchy
The leaves are huge, some of them more than 20″ wide.
Those are big ones. They put the ones in the grocery store to shame
Most people like them grocery store size better, but I cooked these and they’re not bad.
Mama, Daddy, & babies!
🙂
Thise are big to be hiding! I had a couple cucumber plants in a pot and a couple of them hudcthecsame way. But their leaves are not near as big as the zucchini leaves.
We measured one of the leaves last night — over 20″ wide.
Nature’s ways are sure amazing! I wonder, are the big ones as tender and flavorful as their smaller counterparts?
Not as flavorful, but still edible.
Laughing at Jenny’s mom is Daddy’s in babies I wonder if you can eat those little ones
I eat them all…the little ones raw. 🙂
I noticed how well-hidden strawberries could be one year. Some strawberry patches were opened to the public after the hired pickers had gone through one harvest season. I used to get up early many days before I went to work at a bank then, to pick quite a few berries in a 2 quarts (not those little baskets they give us now) for the price of one offer. All i had to do was lift the leaves to find big red luscious berries hiding under the leaves. The pickers had rushed through only picking what they could see.
That’s a win-win situation for everyone.
