The Good Side of Bad Dreams

I’ve been going through old draft posts and came across this video from 2015.

I don’t know if there’s any truth to it, but it made me realize I almost never have nightmares any more. Plenty of weird dreams, but no nightmares. What about you?

it’s odd. because I’ve read that we All dream.
and yet I haven’t dreamed in ages. or at least I never recall them.
I had a nightmare once when I was 7 that occurred for many weeks.
it had to do with walls closing in on me. it was very real and frightening.
I’ve often wondered if resulted in my being claustrophobic! ??

So, kind of like a release valve! Good to know there is a good reason.

  3. Cindi says:

    I dream every night
Many times I’ll get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and I’ll have been dreaming and when I get back into bed, I continue my dream. Like it’s a movie on pause. Sometimes I wake up feeling kinda exhausted from my dreams. Sometimes they are nightmares and sometimes just weird strange stories. I can’t even imagine not dreaming. I honestly have never not dreamed, even if I take a nap, I have a dream.
Wow, I wonder how it feels not to dream?!
When I had my surgery, I remember closing my eyes and then opening them in recovery. It was frightening to me to experience that. I hope that’s not what some people feel like without dreams.

That’s interesting that you can continue the dream even if you have to get up and interrupt it. I don’t usually dream if I take a nap but when I wake up I often don’t know what time it is and have to figure it out.

  4. I have dreams, remember some, others not so – plus I often wake up and find I’ve obviously been in a wrestling match and everything isn’t on the bed, except me!

  5. Ann Thompson says:

That’s a very interesting concept. I often wake up knowing that I was dreaming but have no clue what it was about. The ones that I do remember are usually of me being at work. Even in my dreams I can’t get a day off…lol

    • Jean says:

I used to dream that I needed to catch a plane but couldn’t pull myself away from work to go pack. Not relaxing at all. I think yours are probably worse.

i coudl copy and paste Cindis comment, it is exactly what I do and have since i was a small child. I did have scary dreams as a child and now some are scary in a different way. no monsters under the bed, but sometimes i know why, because it is about something on my mind and sometimes just plain weird. something started a few months ago that is new, most of my dreams have one or more of all the family who have died since I married Bob, the only ones left are my brother and his family and a few cousins. mother, daddy, mothers sister and her husband have become familar again.. i like the video and it makes me feel better that these dreams are clearning my mind. bob never dreams
Beau was crying in his throat because he wants to walk and I gave him the bone I bought with your gift, and he is in love with it. it is nylo bone and looks like a deer antler. he has been chewing for almost and hour.. i got him 3 indestrutible chew toys from you. so far he plays with three, he just as i typed changed to the other one… saving the other one for tomorrow.

I had nightmares as a child. In my adult years, I had nightmares in which I was trying to save my children from disaster and not succeeding. In my 30s, I had a nightmare in which I was accosted, I turned on the guy, and killed him. That was the last nightmare I’ve had (I’m 84). It probably signaled my having reached a point in life where I felt secure in my own abilities.

  8. Linda Sand says:

I often dream but only sometimes remember them. I have had the experience of getting up during the night then going back to bed and having the dream continue. As you know, some of my dreams have turned into story prompts.

  9. Rose says:

I seldom remember dreams now…some I have are disturging, but not very many. And not even very disturbing. Though when a kid I used to have a lot of dreams where I could not my eyes open, or if I did things were blurry. But I never felt scared in the dreams.

  10. Hootin' Anni says:

    Nightmares? Ya
Dreams are mostly family orientated. I can remember some still today. I’ve often thought what was on my mind to make me dream the dream? Clearing my mind of what?

  11. Joared says:

I’ve rarely ever had what I would call a nightmare, and not since childhood. One repetitive one for a time was probably a reflection of anxiety I was experiencing.

  12. nick says:

Like you, I have weird dreams but no nightmares. I’ve recently taken to telling myself before I go to sleep “I will have happy and optimistic dreams”. I don’t usually remember my dreams but I’m waking up feeling fine so clearly no nightmares.

  13. Myra Guca says:

How interesting … both this video and the comments. I don’t recall having had nightmares as a child, but seem to be making up for it the last several years. A couple recurring: Desperately looking for a public restroom, but when I do, all the stalls’ toilets are nasty and overflowing. More recently, I’m back at work feeling frantic that I won’t measure up. The last one, I couldn’t find my boss’ cast iron skillet (huh?). How crazy!

    • Jean says:

The public toilet one is one I used to have a lot. That one about the boss’s cast iron skillet is somewhat like my weird dreams. It’s fun to see what our minds come up with.
