It’s A Great Day…

for staying inside and practicing my happiness skills… by starting to work on my income tax.

The secret of happiness is to ask yourself every day:
  (1) What’s good about my life?
  (2) What needs to be done?
  (3) How can I get this done and enjoy the process?

Income tax is one of my annual tests to see how I’m doing. What works for me is starting early, breaking it down into little steps, and doing a bit at a time. And keeping in mind,

Work is precious. Save some for tomorrow.

So that’s what works for me, what works for you?

Your attitude about this is so good! If we cannot avoid something, then we have to find ways to make the best of it.

we Finally got rain last night! it was very cold but not a freezing rain and there was thunder. I enjoyed just listening to it. it’s been so long since we had any!
must also do my taxes. but they should be simple. I’ll try to adopt Your attitude about them! LOL. XO

  3. I find that is I do just one chore a day – be the whole chore or its broken up – I get as much done if not more. And I save my energy for things like “creativity” which is the #1 item I love to do. But some chores cannot be broken up – other than choosing how many “loads…”

Laundry load (only one) is always a big issue – not the washer, it does a great service at the flick of switch. But putting the wet washing out – either down the back steps to the rotary clothes lines, or on the rack on the front porch and then excess smalls on back porch. Then later deciding what is dry v what can stay out…
I don’t own a dryer nowadays – somehow it hasn’t been a priority. I know that sounds odd to many of you but outdoor clotheslines are the way a lot of people do things in NZ.

It really depends on what the job is…and lately I am having trouble with anything working. But a lot of time, the thought of reading a few minutes or sewing a few minutes when I get done with something is motivation.

Sometimes we have to immerse ourselves, but if I get curious and patient I can still get some satisfaction out of the problem. It’s good practice for developing our skills.

I would have to say that letting it out works for me. When things are less than ideal I whine, cry or complain. Then I can move on and get over it. Taxes will be a job for tomorrow.

I used to do what you said here with my taxes, that was back when I was still in the work force, after we went to retirement and nothing but SS checks, its not bad, only takes 30 or 40 minutes and there are no PAPERS and receipts to gather. but other jobs that i don’t want to do, I put them on a list and tell myself I can’t touch my computer or a book until the list is done. gives me incentive because I love my computer and reading

    • Jean says:

I have Possibility Lists, things I could do and things I’ll eventually have to do. Usually that’s enough to get me to do a little bit. Getting started is often the hard part.

That last line needs put on a sampler!
I used to have similar self-questions pasted on the inside of my bathroom’s medicine cabinet. While I no longer have a medicine cabinet, I’m thinking it’s time to do it again. Beats reciting my worries!

  8. My secret happiness tool when doing taxes is handing it all over to a CPA.

  9. It sounds like you have a good plan in order and a great attitude with your happiness skills. I need help with that!!! Have a nice weekend.
