Happy to Wait Patiently

There’s still a red flag warning today because of the wind and low humidity but the winds may lessen for a couple of days starting tomorrow. The fire is still progressing, but slowly.

Here’s a screenshot from a May 8 Mt. Taylor Hotshots video showing members refueling their saw as other members continue work constructing a fireline.

At a community meeting last night they said we may be in the SET mode for a while. That means be ready to evacuate but not at a moment’s notice. They figure we should have about 24 hours warning. They are already evacuating large animals (horses) and people who need ambulance transport. They are also making provisions for people who need transportation or other help.

Andy and I are impressed by and grateful for everything people are doing. We are happy to wait patiently and do what they say.

They are doing their best to be proactive. Deciding when to tell people ot evacuate is always hard, but at least the fire is progressing slowly.

  2. Thank you for this update! 22 years ago today, my mother and I flew in from Florida, expecting to spend a week with friends in White Rock ….. never realizing what was happening.
