Playing With Colors

One of the main reasons I started playing with my glockenspiel and with drawing was to have some toys that didn’t depend on the internet. Or even having electricity for a while. I started drawing with pencil and paper but then decided to try my iPad. That makes it easy to experiment with color so I’ve been thinking of Jeanne Dobie’s Making Color Sing. And I started searching the internet for watercolor sketches that inspire me. Then I wondered if I could do something with this photo I took a few weeks ago. (Click on the pictures for higher resolution.)

I couldn’t figure out how to paint it, but I did play with the color:

In the process I learned a couple of tricks that might also be handy when I use Photoshop Elements. The adventure continues. There’s always a lot more to explore, and there’s no hurry.

Love how you love learning and showing us your work (or fun).

No hurry is the greatest part of retirement. 🙂

  3. Love how you enhanced that photo. The second one sings.

  4. Made a huge decision in my mixed media life, yesterday and this morning “enrolled” in a long course that will take me into next year – monthly new tutors give us ideas of extending our m.media life. In the process I might learn some new ways – of which I did this morning in the set-up for the October tutor. However, I probably won’t start the entire October session until next weekend… and there isn’t any “rush” I can leave some until later, or dip in/out as the courses stay online forever 🙂

There is always something interesting to learn or look into. I always think I need a treadle machine in case the electricity is off for long. Of course, there is always hand stitching which I do love. I just don’t do it as much as I used to..

My grandmother had a treadle machine years ago. Having some possible hand stitching projects might be easier as a backup project.

  6. I think Sandra’s recent experience makes me realize how dependent I’ve become on the internet. All things electric, actually. High time I consider the possibilities.

I need to find things that don’t depend on the internet or even electricity. Just about everything I do these days relies on one or both of those.
I like what you did with this picture. It really brought out the yellow and the green.

I think it’s a good idea to have something as a backup. It doesn’t have to be much. But this is spoken by someone who always packs her toys first when she has to travel. 😀
