They Call the Wind Mariah

In addition to the drought, one big change we’ve seen in the weather/climate is the afternoon winds. Andy hasn’t had a chance to bring the Christmas tree down from the roof yet because of them and they sometimes are so strong you can hear howling in the house.

When we were up there Thursday he said it reminded him of the song They Call the Wind Mariah, especially the first part.

Away out here they got a name
For rain and wind and fire
The rain is Tess, the fire Joe,
And they call the wind Mariah

Mariah blows the stars around
And sends the clouds a’flyin’
Mariah makes the mountains sound
Like folks were up there dying

The song was part of a Kingston Trio album we had years ago, and thanks to YouTube we could listen to it again.

One more example of how the internet enriches our lives.

Yes, the wind does howl sometimes! Kaitlin and I are trying to talk Andy into leaving the tree up all year round, replacing it if it ever needs it. Fingers crossed!

I don’t think I’ve heard this song before but yet it sounds familiar. I know I’ve heard of the Kingston Trio.

  3. I loved the Kingston Trio! My uncle taught me to sing ‘Tom Dooley’, but I think my favorite was MTA.

  6. very windy here today, in my region – it’s a Easterly from the Pacific Ocean … with lite rain since around 11ish. And who has her washing on the line – well secured I will tell thee, but it’s not probably going to get dry today!
