We’re having a few days of good weather for fighting the fire, but that may change Thursday and Friday. At the moment they don’t expect to have it contained until May 5th. Since the fire is moving in the direction of our place we don’t expect to be able to go up there until it’s contained.
This was this morning’s briefing on Facebook.
Later, 5 PM: We just got back from an AARP Driver Safety class to read an announcement from the Forest Service.
SANTA FE, NM β April 26, 2022 β The Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) has issued a closure order to protect public health and safety during fire operations on the Cerro Pelado Fire. The order is effective from now until Dec. 31, 2022, unless rescinded earlier.
….
The closure order prohibits members of the public from entering the restricted area, including all Forest Service lands and trails within an area roughly defined by NM Highway 4 on the west, Valles Caldera National Preserve on the north, Bandelier National Monument on the east, and Zia Pueblo and Santo Domingo Pueblo on the south.
We’re expecting property owners will have permission to go up before December 31st. We will let you know.
April 26, 2022
OMGOSH.
I wasn’t sure I’d read that correctly. but I guess they’re erring on the side of extreme caution. keeping you and the beautiful land ever in my thoughts. XO
We don’t believe the December 31. They say they will rescind it earlier if conditions are right. we’ll just have to see what happens this weekend when the winds are supposed to pick up.
Oh no!
Itβs so sad to read this news.
Iβm hope everyone stays safe and that the fire is contained very soon.
xo
Thanks!
Oh goodness, sounds like it is getting closer and closer. But I am sure the brave firefighters are keeping it away from homes, and that is their first priority.
They’re trying, and we appreciate it.
much love and care from the other side of the world – that your almost “still new cabin and even newer glasshouse” remains untouched…
Thanks, fingers crossed!
O my gosh!!! This news is completely disheartening. I pray in time, the timeline will change.
We’re not taking that December 31 date seriously, The main thing is keeping the fire away from our property …we’ll know a lot more after this weekend.
Oh my, until Dec 31. Are there people who live in that area full time? What would a person do for that long of a time?
I’m pretty sure they will let the public go in before December 31. As soon as they think the danger is over they will probably keep the gates locked for a while but let landowners go in. That’s what they have done before.
I have done read your comments about maybe they will change the date if conditions are right. That sure is a long time if things dont change.
I’d be willing to bet that date will change. π
sorry to hear this. I hope it will be contained and that rain will come and help the firefighters. each state has something like this, and the last two years have been kind to us here in Florida with hurricanes, your fire is like our watching the storms. Fire is terrifying to me. Prayers for all in the path of the fire
Yes, hurricanes are the same sort of thing.
PS prayers for YOU with Andy home and no where to go every day… been there doing that here.
π He’s handling it very well.
Sobering! With Andy unable to go up there every day, is there a possibility of y’all taking a little trip to see Tempi and her parents?
No, we will stay here. Andy is designing more electronics so is keeping himself busy.
I hope you and your property stay safe. I like the idea of you going visiting rather than staying and watching the fire. Unless being further away would be more stressful.
We can’t go up there for a while but they’re good about giving us updates about what is happening.
Sad for Andy, especially be he so loves tinkering with his greenhouse. Can’t believe that December date, hope that doesn’t hold true for property owners.
That December 31 date is funny. I’m sure they picked it to give themselves a lot of room.
