Update on Greenhouse

The architect is fine. He phoned this morning and said he had other meetings all day but the plans we have, including the notes, are enough for the contractor to get the permits to start working.

The contractor has said he is willing to go down only once and the architect said if there is any problem he will go down. (Why am I skeptical? Andy says I should just relax. I’m relaxed, just dubious.)

The architect said he is happy to draw more detailed plans if we want, that we can all get together. Andy has been asking the contractor to set up the meetings because he and the architect have busier schedules than we do, but the contractor felt he was caught in the middle. Andy apologized to him, and now Andy will set up the meetings with the architect and tell the contractor when the meeting is. What a mess.

The contractor is planning to go down to Bernalillo Monday (three hours round trip) to start the permit process going.

An ongoing saga.

everything is very complicated these days. one has to have an advanced degree in simple patience just to endure it all! good luck!!! maybe this time next year you might have a greenhouse! then again… you might not. 😀 XO

  2. Building anything is always two steps forward and one step back. Evidentially you’ll get where your going but not with a lot patience.

It’s tough sometimes coordinating everyone’s schedules.

You’ve mentioned the greenhouse in a previous post, and I am green with envy! It will be worth the wait!

Fingers crossed. It’s better to have a sense of adventure than to get our hopes up too high. As I said above, we started the project almost three years ago. (See my response to the OP Pack below.)

  5. what I hate about these kinds of processes…is that once there was an office that dealt with all that in your town/village! Then suddenly the regional head office or similar said “this a waste of money and resources” and then suddenly your branch has closed and your new office is hours away…

here it is always services that are “closed” be it council offices where you used to pay your rates/property taxes; a big chain supermarket; your local banking service; other…

the other biggie here is your post office – that handle a lot of other things besides buying a “stamp”

OH boy, this sounds very confusing. We don’t blame you for being skeptical of all coming together. Good luck – we are hoping for a positive outcome.

We started the project in 2016 and thought we were going to have it built in 2017. One contractor (not the one we have now) seemed interested in building it and we had several meetings, but when he gave us his bid it was greatly inflated. We assumed that meant he had changed his mind, that he had other projects he would rather work on. I called him on it and said we would do it for his price, figuring if he agreed we would at least get the thing done, but he admitted he didn’t want to do it.

Then last year contractors had enough jobs down here so it was hopeless. They’re willing to work up at our place only if they don’t have other choices — it’s a long drive, about half the time on dirt roads. Our present contractor is interested now (he was busy last year) so we are doing our best to get it built this year while conditions seem favorable. Fingers crossed!

Domestic projects always turn out to be much more complex than anticipated! Hopefully the obstacles will prove to be easily remedied ones and not major headaches.
