Getting Caught Up

We took a train to see Kaitlin, Torben, and the pups last Wednesday and got back yesterday afternoon. We had a great time, and I hope your week went well too.

I wrote and scheduled posts for the days I was gone, and today have been busy unpacking, doing laundry, and getting back to the things I was working on when I left.

Andy went to the land today, of course, and said there was a hard freeze — down to 16°F — and all our apples froze. Joe’s crew finished painting the greenhouse so I will have some pictures tomorrow.

See you then!

How did it get to be the middle of October already?!!

  1. how indeed did it – be mid October…

I’ve got to finish a few more DL5 notebooks…soon-as! They are now corralled in one shelf; but I’m not done sorting up everything else (that maybe needed)…

hope you you all had a pleasant trip that no one had an incident that required professional treatment…

oh bugger, frozen apples…just when they were coming along just fine…

We were lucky with our train. It was only a half hour late getting into Chicago and was an hour late coming back. Another train was going to be way over 13 hours late to Chicago when we were coming back. We thought our 13 hours two years ago was bad!

Yes, Andy’s sad about his apples, but it is fall and in the mountains.

It’s always nice getting home after a trip but then there is so much work involved too.
Yikes on the 16 degrees. Too bad about the apples.

The main work is dealing with the pictures I took, especially moving the ones from my iPhone to my Mac. The new operating system makes it more complicated than it was before.

  3. I am not ready for winter temperatures like sixteen! Glad you got a little get-away in. Train travel still sounds better than airplanes, even with the delays.

    • Jean says:

The train works for us because we go straight to Chicago, no changing trains and waiting in between. And because we get a sleeping room.

YES. totally. for me too. airplanes just don’t appeal to me anymore.
I’m glad you had a good time. I bet your grand dogs were beside themselves with happiness! LOL.

Jenny and I took the Via Rail sleeper train from Halifax to Montreal recently. It was good to have our own cabin, proper beds and our own toilet, but the cabin was absurdly small and cramped, with hardly any storage space. We might have been reasonably comfortable in a cabin twice the size. No way are we taking a sleeper train again. The one compensation was absolutely excellent food all the way.

Yeah. Middle of October already. And just the other day it was August, wasn’t it? I envy your train trip – I love trains.

    • Jean says:

Andy does too — he loves sitting and watching the scenery. I don’t like to sit, so I like the fact we can move around on a train.

  7. It’s always fun to get away – It’s that coming back that makes you feel like you need another break with all there is to do! 🙂 I’m out of town overnight in West VA – I’m hoping to find a place to get some apples, I have a few recipes I want to try…. Or just to eat and enjoy!!
