Good Mental Exercise

As I’ve said before, you don’t have to leave home to have an adventure. My big one right now is setting up my new computer. You won’t miss anything by skipping the details and going to the last couple of lines. 🙂

The digital input on the old Dell Monitor I was using doesn’t work with the new Mac Mini. I discovered that months ago when I tried the machine the first time. I didn’t want to have to replace a trusty old monitor that has been working for years with a new unknown one, so I sent the new Mac Mini back. But now I had to face up to the problem.

As it turns out, Andy thought the 27″ Apple monitor he was using on the desk top was too big for him to use comfortably, so we just exchanged them. It was a pain to do, but that part seems to be working fine.

I thought I was in good shape with printing because I’ve been using my Canon all-in-one on the old Mac Mini with the same operating system. Yeah, sure. I found the driver download on the old machine, cheerfully tried to install it, and got this message.

Canon stopped supporting the printer years ago, and apparently I could use the printer if the Mac operating system updated after the printer was already there, but otherwise I was out of luck. OK, I could check to see if I could find the right driver to use the Canon with our desktop computer (with an older operating system) and see if I could find a driver for our other all-in-one printer, an HP 8600, that would work on the new Mac Mini. If I could then we could switch the two machines. Yuck!!

That wasn’t my top priority, so I decided to put the problem on hold while I did other things. A short time later it dawned on me that when we bought the HP it had the option of remote printing using WiFi. It turned out that was easy to set up, so now if I want to print I can use the HP without moving it. We were dismissive of that option when we bought the HP, but how wrong we were!

Anyway, no lack of mental exercise here. How is it going with you?

Happy Halloween!

    LOLOL!!!
don’t mind me. just brilliantly carry on!
and amazingly enough… you innately knew what you might need before you needed it! I’m glad it worked out.

    you deserve a prize.

We didn’t know we would need it, but we bought it about seven years ago and they were adding the wireless feature. We didn’t have much of a choice. I’m glad I remembered after all these years. 😀

I love my HP printer with wifi…

I must say that nothing is ever simple. Or is not for me.

  3. My printer was bought for me by some one else, and it had no instructions…found out that “settings” has a great menu, a month or two back when the woman at the cartridge recycle shop suggested I do something that might give my old printer a bit of an extension…

Mentally starting to understand future health – but this week has been about, being mindful but staying at my base. I’m hoping to go out, short trip this w/end…And then found a mindless art/craft thing to do and realised I’ve spent a lot of time doing it today…and I’m happy.

Good for you for the “just making” without a particular image or goal in mind. You’re feeding your subconscious as well as, in your words, feeding your soul. It’s a lot better than worrying about things we have no control over. That said, good luck with the health issues!

That does sound like a big headache. I have a wireless printer and I’ve never printed from anything other than my desktop but it’s nice to know I can from other devices if I want to

Goodness, such trials and tribulations. Good to hear you finally got on top of everything. Why is computer technology so frigging complicated?

How’s it going with me? We just had Halloween and a bunch of trick or treaters who grabbed a huge pile of chocolate bars. And this morning there are bits of rocket everywhere from the fireworks party across the road!
