It Depends on the Wind

Here is today’s video fire briefing, just click on the picture to view it if you are curious.

And here is the weather and fire behavior briefing. Again, click on the picture to see the video.

And here is the latest pdf update from the Forest Service: 2022-05-07 CP Update.

We joined a zoom meeting yesterday evening about the fire and they said there is now a definite chance we might have to evacuate, so be prepared. Andy and I had thought we might try to stay in Santa Fe but at the meeting last night they said don’t even bother trying. The hotels are already booked because of the evacuations from an even bigger fire to the east of us.

For higher resolution click here.

So we’ll try phoning some Albuquerque hotels/motels to see how full they are. If they don’t look plausible we’ll have to think of where else we might go.

Dear me!! And there are fires all around you. Hope you two can find some place out of harm’s way yet still not far.

  2. Ann Thompson says:

I hope you can find a safe place to stay. I just can not imagine what this must be like to go through. You are definitely in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you. We’ve been evacuated twice before, The first time we drove to Montana to take Andy’s mother out for her 91st birthday. The second time we drove to see my sister and family in California. We don’t want to drive that much now. We don’t even want to stay in a motel thanks to COVID and staffing problems. But it could be a lot worse.

  3. oh no… – looks like you’d be safer at the cabin – but then maybe that’s not sensible…keep safe…

  4. Rose says:

I hope that things turn around and you don’t have to go anywhere. I cannot imagine having to up and leave at a moment’s notice. You two are in my thoughts and prayers.

  5. Ginny+Hartzler says:

Oh my, I had so hoped it would not come to this. I sure hope you can find a nice place to go.

  6. Cindi says:

    This is such frightening news.
    Please don’t wait too long!!!
and please be safe and very careful in your travels!
You are so much calmer than I could ever be.
    Take care! xoxoxo

We’re watching what the fire is doing and the powers that be are conservative about evacuations. It may not happen but the possibility is real.

  7. Is heading north (to Colorado) out of the question? I’d say you’re always welcome here at our home, but this is no time for lame humor. Prayers for all in the path of this monster.

    • Jean says:

We’re looking at Santa Fe as well as Albuquerque. We’d rather not have to drive very far. It’s easier to make reservations when you know when you will arrive and how long you plan to stay. πŸ™‚

Paris is always a good idea!

  9. AE says:

You weren’t in danger of being bored, but the gods of chance decided to give you lots of energy-generating stuff anyway. I mean really! why don’t they go help someone who needs them?
Are you in Div M on the maps? I’m having trouble figuring them out.
Eric and I both hope all turns out well for you. Wow, all those fires all around!
