Driving down in the dark Thursday evening we saw a potful of elk, on both sides of the road and sometimes crossing. Last night we saw a several more:
They love the abundant grass.
Yesterday when we were having lunch I could see a couple of hawks soaring, and also a smaller bird fluttering up to the top of one of our solar panels. Kaitlin said it was a baby hawk. How cool was that?

I can’t decide which I like more, the elk or the beautiful forest they are in. so much beauty and to be seen from your car.. gorgeous photos.
Fire is getting more and more of the forest, but the remaining trees are still beautiful.
I’d have loved seeing the elk up close! They appear really gentle and trusting. (Or not?)
They’re not frightened, but wary. They probably would have moved away if I had gotten out of the car.
