The Poky Little Puppy

I was reading an article about Dr. Seuss and they said his Green Eggs and Ham was his most popular book, but it wasn’t the best-selling children’s book ever. The Poky Little Puppy was. I had never heard of it, have you? I bought a copy from Amazon, but you can view it here.

I love the innocence of it, and I’ll give it to our Friends of the Library in the hopes that some little kid will enjoy it too. Did you have any books you loved as a kid?

the children will love it. I read about half of it and I think all kids love puppies.. great idea to donate to the library

I do remember this book. I don’t know if I had it when I was a child or my kids had it. Maybe both. I can recall my favorite book being a collection of Mother Goose nursery rhymes. I read that thing over and over. There are some I still know by heart. I can’t believe the price of the Little Golden Books these days. I almost fell over when I saw how expensive they’ve gotten.

Those Little Golden Books were the best!
Aside from Grimm’s Fairy Tales, the only ones I remember are Barbar (the elephant) and one about a platypus.

As a kid, we didn’t own books. But we went to the library every Saturday and came home with a pile of books. We read way too many books for any one to be particularly memorable back then. Green Eggs and Ham was our daughter’s generation; not ours.

  7. I think it depends on the generation but the Golden Books had many titles that suited the younger aged children. I’m not sure GB and Dr S ran the same generation

  8. Very cool, I’d completely forgotten about that one.
